RECOGNITION

In October 1988, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming the second person in Nagasaki Prefecture to reach the age of 110, the first one being Taki Sugimoto (1859–1969), whose age has not been validated.

In September 1990, the Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW) published the National List of the Elderly, and Mrs. Aoyagi was listed as the second-oldest living resident of Japan, behind Waka Shirahama of Miyakonojo, Miyazaki Prefecture.

Her age was verified by the MHLW, as well as Yumi Yamamoto, and validated by LongeviQuest on 20 May 2023.
