Couch was born in Fitzgerald, Georgia, USA, on 11 November 1912. At the age of 5, she moved to the state of Michigan. As a young woman, she served as the secretary of the Detroit Stars Negro League Baseball team, and she stood with activists like Rosa Parks.
At some point, she married Archie Couch, and the couple had nine children. She was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 92.
Couch credited her longevity to God, stating, “The Lord has been good to me.”
Couch passed away in Southfield, Michigan, USA, on 15 March 2023, at the age of 110 years, 124 days.
