BIOGRAPHY

Maria Balbina Régis Alexandre was born in Tijucas, Santa Catarina, Brazil, on 29 March 1902. She was one of 14 children born to parents José Eugênio Régis and Romana. She started working at the age of 9, taking care of the elderly.

In the 1920s, she married Pedro Ivo Alexandre. Following the marriage, she started planting vegetables to support her husband. Her husband owned a plot of land where they raised cattle, pings and poultry, and farmed various crops. The couple had three children.

In the 1960s, she traveled with her husband to visit relatives in Joinville, but her husband died of a stroke on Christmas day during the visit. She lived on her own until she was 105, when her granddaughter moved in.
