Biography

Liberalino Ferreira Leite was born in Brejos, outside the city of Crato, Ceará, Brazil, on 6 February 1899. His parents were Inácio Ferreira Leite and Rita Liberalino de Meneses, both from the municipality of Farias Brito where they got married and then came to live in Brejos. His parents were of Portuguese descent. He had nine siblings: Joaquim, Valdemiro, Virgílio, António, José, Livardo, Irinéia, Genir and Beleza. At the age of 8, he moved to a farm in Sítio Enxu in the same municipality.

On 21 November 1925, he married Ester de Souza Leite, daughter of his relative, Antonio José Leite. After the wedding, he acquired a small property near the Ponta da Serra village. The couple moved to an old house, where their first children were born: two stillborn children and Edmilson in 1930. They had seven more children: Valdir (1932), Creuza (1935), Jaime (1936), Antonio (1937), Valdo (1939), Maria (1941) and Maria (1944). Since they lived in a very old house, they decided to move to a different house on the outskirts of the village.

In the 1960s, he moved to Crato, where his wife passed away at the age of 95.

Liberalino Ferreira Leite passed away in Crato, Ceará, Brazil, on 15 June 2009.
