José Fernandes Morgado

José Fernandes Morgado was a Portuguese-born Brazilian supercentenarian who was the oldest living man born in Portugal, as well as the oldest known man in Brazil with age-supporting documentation. He is among the top five oldest Portuguese-born men of all time.

Biography

Fernandes Morgado was born in Assanha de Paz, Pombal, Portugal on 10 January 1912. He emigrated to Brazil in November 1929 aged 17, eventually settling in Indaiatuba, São Paulo by 1931. Ten years later, he married Zulmira Bacheschi and had a son and a daughter – Rui and Maria Helena.

After the 8 October 2021 death of Alberto Andrade, Fernandes Morgado became the oldest living man born in Portugal. On 1 June 2022, after the death of 112-year-old Delio Venturotti, he became the oldest living man in Brazil whose age was either validated or pending validation by Supercentenarios Latinoamericanos (LAS). He died on 18 June 2022 at the age of 110 years, 159 days.
