Secundina Virginia Moyano Ponce was an Argentinian supercentenarian whose age has been validated by the Gerontology Research Group. She was the second validated supercentenarian in the history of Argentina, after Luisa Roncoroni.

BIOGRAPHY

Moyano Ponce was born in Córdoba, Córdoba Province, Argentina, on 17 May 1904, and was baptized on 9 July 1904. She was the sixth of eight children born to José Moyano and Casimira Ponce. She attended school until the sixth grade.

In her youth, her boyfriend was a Chilean man, Andres Bergontini, but he left her to marry another, more wealthy woman. She never got married herself, and had no children, but had a large number of nieces and nephews.

In her later years, she lived with her niece in a nursing home in the city of La Rioja, Argentina. Following her niece’s death in April 2016, Moyano Ponce moved to live with her grand-nephews and great-grand-nephews. On 17 May 2017, Moyano Ponce turned 113, and became the first validated person in Argentina to reach this age.

Moyano Ponce died on 20 June 2017 in La Rioja, Argentina, at the age of 113 years, 34 days.

RECOGNITION

Her age was verified by Nicolas Ruiz Moreno and Anri Kusaku, and validated by the GRG on 20 October 2015.

Moyano Ponce was the oldest validated person ever from Argentina until 13 May 2020, when her age was surpassed by Casilda Benegas.

Moyano Ponce was the oldest validated person ever born in Argentina until 2020, when her age was surpassed by Evangelista Luisa López.
