BIOGRAPHY

Tsurue Furuno was born in Kagawa Prefecture, Japan, on 25 August 1907.

After the end of World War II, she moved to her husband’s hometown of Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture, where she worked as a Japanese dressmaker. According to her nephew Kazumasa, she was “a person who is not stressing over small things.”

Tsurue Furuno passed away in Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, on 8 July 2019, at the age of 111.

RECOGNITION

On 21 January 2018, following the passing of 111-year-old anonymous lady of Kumamoto City, she became the oldest living person in Kumamoto Prefecture.

Upon her death, Chie Ogata became the oldest living person in Kumamoto Prefecture.

Her age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Yumi Yamamoto and Yu Li, and validated by LongeviQuest on 25 June 2023.
