Toku Shishido [Japanese: 宍戸とく] is a Japanese supercentenarian whose age has been validated by LongeviQuest.

BIOGRAPHY

Toku Shishido (宍戸とく) was born in Ōsaki City (formerly Naruko Town), Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, on August 25, 1915. After graduating from the local higher elementary school, she worked as a kimono tailor.

In 1938, at the age of 23, she married and went on to have four children, though she sadly lost her eldest daughter and second son to illness at young ages. During the difficult years of the war and postwar period, she continued her kimono tailoring while raising her children and supporting the household. By the age of 109, she had four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

According to her family, Shishido was skilled in cooking. Her New Year’s osechi dishes and handmade ohagi with carefully strained red bean paste remain unforgettable flavors for her loved ones. She herself loved ohagi and ate them often. It is believed that her habit of eating a well-balanced diet without being picky may have contributed to her longevity.

When she was living at home, she also enjoyed knitting. Even at the age of 109, it was reported that daily exercise was part of her routine. In January 2018, at the age of 102, she moved into a nursing home in Miyagino Ward, Sendai City, where she continues to live peacefully to this day.

Her age was verified by Miyagi Prefecture and Ryohei Asano, and validated by LongeviQuest on 15 September 2025.
