BIOGRAPHY
Shun Wakano was born in Japan on 1 April 1900.
Shun Wakano passed away in Shinjō, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan, in December 2012, at the age of 112 years, 244-274 days.
RECOGNITION
Following the passing of 110-year-old Riu Kato of Yamagata City on 27 October 2010, Wakano became the oldest known living person in Yamagata Prefecture. Upon her own passing, she was likely succeeded by Masa Katagiri.
Her age was verified by the MHLW, Japan, and validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) on 23 January 2011. The validation was later recognized by LongeviQuest.
On 24 June 2012, at the age of 112 years. 84 days, she surpassed the final age of Syun Suzuki (1892–2004), becoming the oldest person ever to have lived in Yamagata Prefecture.
