Rose Harris was born in Yale, Crawford County, Kansas, United States on 30 January 1900, one of ten siblings born to parents Lott and Margaret (née Shaw) Miller. Her father worked as a coal miner, and earned scarcely enough money to support his family of ten children. Due to the family’s poverty, Rose began working at an early age to support herself and her family. In 1954, at the age of 54, she married Walter B. Harris in Kansas City, Missouri. She had been previously married to a man with the surname of Allen, and had one son, who predeceased her. The couple were married for 19 years before Walter’s death in 1973. She worked as a maid and housekeeper for 55 years before her retirement in 1962, and would eventually move to Pittsburg, Crawford County, Kansas.
She was a member of the Light House Temple Church of God in Christ, and served as a member of the Mothers Board. In 2005, to commemorate her 105th birthday, the City of Pittsburg named a nearby street after her.
She passed away on 8 October 2010, at the age of 110 years, 252 days.
Her age was verified by Jimmy Lindberg and Stefan Maglov, and was validated by LongeviQuest on 17 April 2024.
