Rose was born in Osnabrück, Lower Saxony, Germany, on 4 December 1903. Her occupation, as an adult, was a milliner. She married a teacher and choirmaster, Wilhelm Rose, and had a daughter, Irmgard, who was 76 at the time of her mother’s 111th birthday. She was a lifelong teetotaller.
The couple moved to Nordhorn, Lower Saxony, in 1938. After her husband’s death, Rose lived independently until the age of 95, when she moved in with her daughter, with whom she stayed for the rest of her life. At the time of her 110th birthday, she was suffering with mobility and hearing difficulties.
Rose died on 25 April 2015 at the age of 111 years, 142 days. She was survived by her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Following the death of Gertrud Henze on 22 April 2014, Rose became Lower Saxony’s oldest known resident. Upon her own death one year later, the title likely passed to Helene Wentzel (1906 – 2016).
Rose’s age was verified by Stefan Jamin, Thomas Breining, and Ulrich Koch, and was validated by the GRG and the ESO on 30 December 2014 and 31 January 2020 respectively.
