BIOGRAPHY

Broz was born in Döbling, the 19th district of Vienna, Austria, on 18 January 1895. Her occupation, for many years, was a teacher. She never married nor had children.

For the final three decades of her life, Broz lived independently in her own apartment in Hainfeld, Lower Austria. She had meals provided for her by a local senior care service. Her hobbies included reading and knitting, both of which she partook in regularly.

Broz died on 4 June 2005 at the age of 110 years, 137 days.

RECOGNITION

On 4 August 2003, following the death of 108-year-old Karoline Theyer, Broz became Austria’s oldest known resident. Upon her own death, the title passed to Hermine Hermann, also 108.

Broz was the third supercentenarian from Austria, after Maria Mika (1882 – 1994) and Leopold Vietoris (1891 – 2002). As Mika was born in present-day Czech Republic, Broz is the first known female supercentenarian born in what is now Austria.

Broz’s age was verified by Thomas Breining and validated by the GRG on 20 February 2005.
