Raymundo Nery Pinto Ferreira was born in Fazenda do Taquaral in the district of Dores de Guanhães, Minas Gerais, Brazil, on 17 May 1911, to Raymundo Euzébio Souza Pinto and Marieta Ferreira Coelho. He was one of ten children and, as of 2013, the last surviving sibling. His siblings were: Maria, Iveta, Vitelina, Marieta, Ceci, Edite, Otacílio, Rita, and José. In August 1921, the family moved to the city of Ferros, where he enrolled in the local school in September. Since he already had a foundation in reading, writing, and arithmetic, which he had previously acquired through a private tutor, he advanced directly to the second year and completed primary school in just 3 years and 3 months. To continue his studies, he enrolled in the Albertino Drummond Normal School in the city, earning his diploma as a Normalista on 8 December 1932. On 5 February 1934, he was temporarily appointed as a Clerk of the Peace and Civil Registry Officer for the District of Ferros. After passing a public exam, he was officially appointed to the same position and district for life on 4 June 1934, by a decree signed by the Federal Interventor of the State of Minas Gerais. He held this position for 18 years, from February 1934 to 20 July 1952.
On 4 May 1938, he met a woman named Clarice, when he officiated her sister’s wedding as a Civil Registry Officer. They were married in a religious ceremony on 19 September 1940, at Fazenda das Botas in the district of Ferros. The civil marriage followed soon after. The couple had at least one daughter, Zuleika.
While serving as a Civil Registry Officer in Ferros, he was appointed by the District Judge to temporarily hold the position of Crime and Tax Enforcement Clerk for four months without any remuneration, taking on more than 100 ongoing cases. He accepted the assignment out of a sense of duty and a desire to support the justice system. On 16 March 1950, after successfully passing a public examination, he qualified to be appointed as a Federal Tax Clerk for the Ministry of Finance. He officially took office on 28 May 1952, and began his duties on 25 July of the same year in the city of Monte Azul. He was later transferred to Santa Maria de Itabira, where he served for eight years, then to Ferros, and finally concluded his service in Itabira.
On 11 August 1964, he joined the Santana Conference of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, based in the city of Ferros. He was quickly elected President, a position he held for several years. On 15 November 1982, he was elected councilman of the Municipal Chamber of Ferros, serving in the position for six years.
Beyond his official duties, he was involved in his parish and community. He served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist in the city and worked in the Parish Office, handling the registration of baptisms, marriages, and other events.
Pinto Ferreria celebrated his 100th birthday in 2011 with a mass attended by family, friends, and local residents. Despite his advanced age, he remained in excellent physical and mental health, walking unaided at 108. He was known as “Mundinho.”
His age has not been validated.
