Ramona Costoyas Rey was born in Silleda, Galicia, Spain, on 10 August 1909. She was raised by her grandparents while her parents sought a livelihood in Latin America, specifically in Argentina. At the age of 20, she married José Sueiro, a native of Merza. The couple had four children. Her husband passed away at the age of 90.
On her 108th birthday, the mayor of Silleda, Manuel Cuíña, and the head of Social Welfare, Pilar Peón, visited her residence to present her with a bouquet of flowers. Despite experiencing some mobility challenges at the time, Ramona was noted for having an exceptional memory. On her 110th birthday, Ángela Troitiño, the Councillor for Benestar, and Mónica González, the acting mayor, visited her home to offer their congratulations and present her with a bouquet of flowers.
Ramona Costoyas Rey passed away in Silleda, Galicia, Spain, on 4 April 2020, at the age of 110 years, 238 days.
On 27 November 2018, following the passing of 110-year-old Concepción Pichel Sampayo, she became the oldest living person in the municipality of Silleda.
