BIOGRAPHY

Narcisa Olivarez García was born on the ranch of La Barranca del Rincón de Chávez, near San Miguel el Alto, Jalisco, Mexico, on 24 October 1910. She had five siblings. In her youth, she helped her parents by taking care of chickens.

Her father died while she was a teenager, so the family moved to San Miguel el Alto, where her mother found a job to support the children. In 1929, she married Jose Gutiérrez Pérez, but since priests were getting killed during the Cristero War (1926–29), they didn’t get married in the church, but a priest married them secretly in a house. Before his death, her father was a friend of Victoriano Ramírez López, a Mexican General of the Cristero War.

Since the region was poor during and after the war, her husband went to work in the US for some time, and later worked in agriculture, raising corn and beans. He prospered with hard work, buying and trading cattle, sometimes walking to San Francisco del Rincón, Guanajuato on foot with cattle, accompanied by their son. The couple had ten (or eight, according to some sources) children.

When she was 110, three of her children were still alive.

Narcisa Olivarez García died in San Miguel el Alto, Jalisco, Mexico, on 15 September 2021.

Her age was verified by Fabrizio Villatoro, Jeffrey Xu and Stefan Maglov, and validated by the LAS on 24 October 2020.
