BIOGRAPHY

Wioskowski was born in present-day Poland on 27 July 1912. For several years, he lived in the United Kingdom and served in the British Army. In his later life, he emigrated to Israel. In December 2020, aged 108, he received the COVID-19 vaccine.

Wioskowski died at the Eshkolot Oranim retirement home in Gedera, a town in the south of Shfela region, on 28 April 2023 at the age of 110 years, 275 days. At the time of his death, he was the third-oldest known man ever to die in Israel.

RECOGNITION

Wioskowski was never recognised for his longevity outside of Israel during his lifetime; his retirement home praised his longevity on their Facebook page.

It is believed that Wioskowski became Israel’s oldest resident following the death of Lithuanian-born Heinke Gilad on 7 March 2022, eclipsing the previous known titleholders Simion Kenner, Rebecca Asher, and Zadok Zilacha. It is unclear when Wioskowski became the oldest man in the country. After his death, the oldest living man and person in Israel is thought to be 109-year-old Marcel Reichstein.
