BIOGRAPHY

Mireille Brun was born in the commune of Ermont in the Val-d’Oise department, Île-de-France, on 18 September 1912, as the youngest of 8 siblings. She began her career as a seamstress before transitioning to providing childcare at home until she retired. She married Roger Brun in 1950, who was 12 years younger than her. He passed away in 2014 at the age of 89. Together, they had a daughter, Dominique Charon. Her husband worked in the aeronautics industry and was often assigned to set up factories, which led the family to move frequently across France to accompany him. When their daughter settled in Maine-et-Loire for work, she and her husband relocated to Anjou upon their retirement in the early 1980s. At the age of 80, she also cared for her young grandson.

At the age of 109, she moved to the Cordelières EHPAD in Les Ponts-de-Cé, after previously living with her daughter and son-in-law, with whom she still traveled on vacations as recently as age 103. On her 110th birthday, she was celebrated with honors and delighted in tasting her birthday cake, paired with a small glass of Anjou wine. When asked about the secret to her longevity, her daughter noted that she had rarely ever been ill. She also received her Covid vaccination around that time. Mireille herself remarked: “I don’t know why I’m still here. If someone had told me this when I was young, I wouldn’t have believed it. It’s only natural. But after all this time, it’s starting to get a bit tiring.” At 110 years old, she remained in excellent health, with only slight hearing loss in one ear. As an elderly woman, she loved participating in gentle gymnastics classes. Even while in a wheelchair or seated in a chair, she had no trouble doing flexibility exercises.

Mireille Brun passed away Les Ponts-de-Cé, Maine-et-Loire, Pays de la Loire, France, on 3 May 2023, at the age 110 years, 227 days.
