BIOGRAPHY

Marianna Błaziak was born in Łopiennik Dolny, Lublin Voivodeship, Poland (then Russian Empire), on 14 September 1909. The daughter of a non-commissioned officer in the Tsarist army, she grew up in a family of 10 children. Actively involved with the Polish Red Cross, she also contributed to the construction of the Church of Divine Mercy in Dobryniów. At some point, she got married and had four children.

At the age of 109, she had seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Even in her old age, she remained keenly interested in everything happening around her, regularly listening to the radio and watching TV without the need for glasses. During her 110th birthday celebration, when her great-grandson asked what she would like to eat, she cheerfully replied, “Herring and beer.”

Marianna Błaziak passed away in Dobryniów-Kolonia, Lublin Voivodeship, Poland, on 25 September 2019, at the age of 110 years, 11 days.
