Maria Tonoli was born in Gromo San Marino, a district of the municipality of Gandellino, Lombardy, on 9 October 1908. She got married in Villa d’Ogna and went on to have eight children. Her husband, Giuseppe Dordi, worked at the hydroelectric plant of Gromo S. Giacomo. One of her sons, Olivo Dordi, was a sergeant in the Army and a recipient of the Silver Medal for Military Valor. He tragically lost his life in the Cima Vallona ambush in 1967. She was the aunt of Blessed Alessandro Dordi, an Italian priest who was declared a martyr and beatified in 2015.
On her 110th birthday, she was honored with a visit from Angela Bellini, the Mayor of Villa d’Ogna, accompanied by Flora Fiorina, the Mayor of Gandellino, Matteo Rossi, President of the Province, and Danilo Cominelli, President of the Comunità Montana Valle Seriana.
Maria Tonoli passed away in Villa d’Ogna, Lombardy, on 30 July 2019, at the age of 110 years, 294 days. She was survived by three of her children, Agnese, Fabio, and Amatore.
