BIOGRAPHY

Maria José de Vasconcelos was born in Ceará, Brazil, on 27 August 1915, to parents José Júlio de Vasconcelos and Rita de Cássia De Vasconcelos. From a young age, she helped her father with farming and fishing, and despite many challenges, she was always devoted to her home, assisting her parents in raising her siblings. Growing up with limited schooling due to the difficult circumstances of the time, she nevertheless learned the core values of family from her parents.

At a very young age, she met João Geraldo Filho, and they soon married. From this union, 18 children were born. In her later years, even though she could no longer attend church, she remained devoted to her faith, praying the rosary every day.

As of August 2024, seven of her children were still living: Maria, Creusa, Livramento, Chico, João, Nazaré, and Antônio. At the time, she had 54 grandchildren, 129 great-grandchildren, 80 great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild. She is visited by Priest Manoel Valderi da Rocha on the occasions of her birthday.
With great faith, she always receives the priest’s visit.
