BIOGRAPHY

Louise Thorne was born in Saint George, Barbados, on 1 January 1908. As a young girl, she worked as a babysitter for the Hutchinson family, who owned a plantation.

She later met and married Alphonsa Thorne, and they remained together for 61 years until his passing in May 2000. Their union brought eight children, and over the years, her family grew to include 22 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Thorne and her husband farmed the land, providing for their family with the produce they grew and sold at the City Market. They also raised their own livestock for food. She was a devoted member of the Church of God Reformation Movement in Greens, St. George.

As of her 110th birthday in 2018, she was reported to be mentally sharp but blind. At the time, she attributed her longevity to honoring her mother and father, in accordance with the Fifth Commandment, and her deep love for God.

Louise Thorne passed away in Saint George, Barbados, on 14 October 2018, at the age of 110 years, 286 days.
