Edna Cumberbatch was born in Fustic Village, Saint Lucy, Barbados, on 14 December 1908. She later moved with her parents to Harrison Point, in the same parish. In her adult life, she worked as a seamstress, creating clothing for a small clientele. She was married to Harold Burton Cumberbatch, and the couple had no children. She occasionally worked at Lamberts Great House, assisting the house manager when requested. She also spent brief periods living abroad in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Trinidad and Tobago.
A devoted member of the James Street Methodist Church in Bridgetown, she eventually became a resident of the Roy Wardeen Nursing Home in Friendly Hall, St. Lucy, where she lived until her passing on 19 November 2019.
Following the passing of 110-year-old Louise Thorne in October 2018, she became the oldest (known) living person in Barbados.
Her age is currently under review.
