Leya “Lillian” Norris (née Palace) was a Lithuanian-born American supercentenarian. Her age has been validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO).

BIOGRAPHY

Lillian Norris was born in Kėdainiai, Kaunas County, Lithuania (then Russian Empire), on 3 October 1907 (claimed 15 September). She moved to Chicago as a toddler. During the Great Depression, Lillian worked as a salesperson at Fair Department Store in Chicago and later as an accountant. Even as many employees were laid off, she remained with the company and developed a lifelong habit of saving.

At some point, she married Samuel Norris, and the couple had two children: Donald Norris and Paula Fagel. Lillian and her husband were married for over 60 years until his passing at the age of 85. According to her daughter, on the very first day she got her driver’s license, she crashed into a tree. After that, she never drove again.

At 110, it was reported that she still enjoyed going out, had plenty of energy, and remained mentally sharp. At the time, she had five living grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Lillian Norris passed away in Chicago, Illinois, on 18 February 2019, at the age of 111 years, 138 days.
