BIOGRAPHY

Kazue Usui (臼井一枝) was born in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, on 17 November 1915. Her parents were originally from Uozu City, Toyama Prefecture, and she later settled in Uozu herself. After marriage, she supported her family as a full time homemaker and raised three children.

After turning 70, she enjoyed home gardening as a hobby, and it was reported that even at the age of 100 she maintained a habit of staying physically active through tasks such as cutting grass. At 100, she lived at home with her eldest son’s wife while attending day service twice a week. At that time, she said that the secrets to her longevity were staying active and eating plenty of all kinds of food, and her favorite treats were dagashi, traditional sweets for children.

In September 2025, Usui was announced as the oldest living person in Toyama Prefecture.

RECOGNITION

Her age was verified by Uozu City, Ryohei Asano and Yumi Yamamoto, and validated by LongeviQuest on 13 January 2026.
