Justine Cognon was born in Papin, Les Abymes, Guadeloupe, France, on 14 April 1911. She grew up in a farming family with five siblings.
At some point, she married Célestin Cognon, and together they raised eight children in Bazin, Les Abymes. Their children were Germaine, Roselina, Margueritta, Pauline-René, Rigobert, Hugot, Jude, and Marga. She was widowed in 1996.
Cognon had 21 grandchildren and around 10 great-grandchildren. Around 2014, she moved in with her daughter Marga in Boiripeaux, Les Abymes, where she spent her later years enjoying sewing, singing, and admiring the flowers in her garden.
Justine Cognon passed away in Boiripeaux, Les Abymes, Guadeloupe, France, on 21 August 2022, at the age of 111 years, 129 days.
At the time of her passing, she was the second-oldest (known) living person in Guadeloupe, after Juliana Sambin.
Her age has not been validated.
