BIOGRAPHY

José Domingos de Lemos Filho was born in Quixeramobim, Ceará, Brazil, on 5 March 1910, to parents José Domingos de Lemos and Raimunda Almeida Lemos. He was a farmer. At some point, he married a woman named Raimunda, and they had children together, including Socorro and Madalena.

On 14 March 2015, at the age of 105, he was a guest on the local Rádio Campo Maior AM 840 in celebration of National Poetry Day. On air, he revealed one of the secrets to his lucidity, attributing it to constant reading. Before leaving the studio, he recited a poem, reminiscing about his move from Fazenda Viração in the rural area to the city, which had occurred approximately 46 years earlier. He was affectionately known as “Seu Canelinha.”

In July 2020, he showed symptoms of COVID-19 and received medical care at home after taking the test.

José Domingos de Lemos Filho passed away at his home in Quixeramobim, on 5 August 2020, at the age of 110 years, 153 days.

RECOGNITION

On 8 March 2020, the Latin American Supercentenarians (LAS) announced that he had been given a pending validation status. The validation process was later completed by Stefan Maglov, Gabriel Ainsworth, and an anonymous researcher, and his age was officially validated by LongeviQuest on 18 July 2024.
