Joaquim Saraiva Lessa was a Brazilian supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Joaquim Saraiva Lessa was born in Brazil on 12 September 1904. He was born to a Portuguese father and a Brazilian mother. At just 15 months old, he lost his mother and was raised by his godparents. He later married Ana Faustino de Araújo. They had 16 children. Two of his daughters, Perpétua and Gracinha (Diana), remained unmarried and lived with him. His son Beijinho also stayed close by—he was the only one who didn’t move away.

Joaquim Saraiva Lessa passed away in Minas Gerais on 16 August 2015, at the age of 110 years, 338 days.

RECOGNITION

His age was verified by James Roberts and Stefan Maglov, and listed as pending validation by the Latin American Supercentenarians (LAS) organization on 27 September 2022.
