Jercy Gonçalves de Souza is a Brazilian semi-supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Jercy Gonçalves de Souza was born on 11 July 1917, in the São Cristóvão neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The daughter of Samuel Gonçalves de Freitas (12 September 1893 – 31 October 1952) and Jandyra Couto de Freitas (27 December 1897 – 31 December 1926), she had three brothers.

As a young girl, she helped her father in Eleven Square, and enjoyed swimming at Praia do Caju. Always active, she had a habit of walking long distances, and enjoyed going for walks.

Throughout her life, she stood out for her dedication to her family. She devoted herself to caring for her three brothers and their children, in addition to caring for her father over the years.

Although she did not hold a formal professional job, she was skilled at sewing and helped her husband run a small candy shop in Realengo, where she lived for most of her life. She married Raul de Souza (27 April 1912 – deceased) on 11 July 1936, with whom she had one son.

Today, she has a family consisting of 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, and is known for her simplicity, strength, and dedication to her home.

She currently lives in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
