Istvánné Fejes was born in Nagybanya, Austria-Hungary (now Baia Mare, Maramureș County, Romania) on 15 February 1911. She was the fourth child born to parents Elemer Soltész (1874–1957) and Róza Zsigmond. She had four siblings: Elemer, Judit, Marta, and Janos. Her father became a priest in Nagybanya in 1899, and later a diocesan council judge, chief clerk, and church district clerk. After graduating from the National Music School and the Academy of Music, she became a distinguished pianist and piano teacher. She moved to Budapest with her family in 1923 and pursued a career in music. She married Istvan Fejes around 1947 and they had at least two daughters.
Fejes dedicated decades to teaching piano and performed in Mátra even in her 60s. At the age of 85, she traveled to the United States to visit her daughter and grandchild. Later, she settled in Szeged, Hungary, to be close to her daughter and son-in-law, enjoying church activities there.
Istvánné Fejes passed away in Szeged, Csongrád-Csanád County, Hungary, on 17 December 2022, at the age of 111 years, 305 days.
Following the death of 113-year-old Veronika Zsilinszki on 20 April 2021, she became the oldest known living person in Hungary.
Following her passing, Árpádné Juhász succeeded her as the oldest living person in Hungary.
