Irene Dutton was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA, on 16 July 1906. She was born to Fred Jones and Elizabeth DeRider and was the eldest of their four children. Her siblings were Helen, Elias, and Elizabeth.
On 8 January 1931, she married Edwin Dutton in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The couple had two children, and Irene was later widowed. Irene spent her entire life in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Irene Dutton died in Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA, on 15 May 2020, at the age of 113 years, 304 days.
Dutton became the oldest known living person in Michigan following the death of 110-year-old Ella Marsh on 24 July 2016. Upon her own passing, she was succeeded by Ellen Goodwill.
Her age was validated by the GRG on 9 March 2019.
