BIOGRAPHY

Iasir Tàmar Gallesi was born in Mirandola, Emilia-Romagna, Italy, on 14 July 1909. She was the fourth of five children born to Ermenegildo and Dosolina. Her father, known as “Gildo,” gave his children unique names: Iris, Saffo, Sidney, Iasir Tamar, and Fatma.

After her father’s passing, Iasir moved to Rome with her mother and youngest sister, Fatma, to be near her brother, who was an oboist. In Rome, she worked at an insurance agency until nearly the age of 80. Though she never married, she did have at least one child.

Iasir was the last surviving sibling, with all her brothers and sisters living to over 95. Until the age of 90, she managed the apartment building where she resided.

At 109, she was living with her granddaughter and was reported to be in good health and fully lucid. Despite severe vision impairment that left her nearly blind, she remained devoted to reading, relying on audiobooks to continue her passion.

Iasir Tàmar Gallesi passed away in Rome, on 12 October 2020, at the age of 111 years, 90 days.
