BIOGRAPHY

Hildegard Vedder was born in Heiligenstadt, Thuringa, Germany, on 17 March 1914. She is the eldest of four siblings. She had two sisters and a brother. Her childhood was marked by her father’s departure from the family when she was still young. At some point in her life, she got married and had children.

Approaching her 105th birthday, it was reported that she was still remarkably healthy and active for her age, maintaining the habit of solving crossword puzzles and reading the newspaper daily without the aid of glasses. In February 2024, she moved to a nursing home. Though she relied on a wheelchair and faced challenges with her senses and memory, she retained a cheerful disposition and resilience.

Vedder passed away in Beckum, North Rhine-Westphalia, on 13 April 2024, at the age of 110 years, 27 days.
