Hedwig Hosig-Huggler was a Swiss supercentenarian who was the nation’s oldest living resident at the time of her passing.
Hedwig Hosig-Huggler was born in Bern, Switzerland, on 12 August 1903. She is said to have lived in Madrid, Spain, for some time. At the age of 26, she met a man there and married him. The couple had three children, all born in Spain. They continued to live there for a while longer, but after the Spanish Civil War in 1939, they moved to Switzerland.
Hedwig Hosig-Huggler passed away in Bern, on 31 May 2014, at the age of 110 years, 292 days.
Following the passing of 108-year-old Louise Mafli (9 May 1903 – 6 Mar 2012), she became the oldest known living person in Switzerland. Upon her own passing, she was succeeded by Alice Roffler-Waldmeier.
At the time of her passing, she was the oldest person ever to have lived in the Canton of Bern. She held the title until 13 January 2023, when Marie Guerne surpassed her final age.
At the time of her passing, she was the fourth-oldest person ever to die in Switzerland, after Rosa Rein, Andrée Fehr-de Boulay, and Emma Duvoisin.
Her age has not been validated.
