BIOGRAPHY
Hatsu Hirai was born in Japan on 15 August 1898.
On 17 September 2009, at the age of 111, she was visited at her home by Masaru Uchino, the mayor of Ebina, who presented her with a bouquet of flowers in celebration of her longevity. She awoke that morning to greet Mayor Uchino. During the visit, he remarked, “When I was a child, you ran a tobacco shop. Please stay healthy for many years to come.”
Hatsu Hirai passed away in Ebina, Kanagawa Prefecture, sometime between 17 September and 1 October 2009, at the age of 111 years, 33-47 days.
RECOGNITION
Her age was verified by the MHLW, Japan, and validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) on 1 November 2008. The validation was later recognized by LongeviQuest.
At the time of her passing, she was the second-oldest living person in Kanagawa Prefecture, after Koto Ōkubo.
