BIOGRAPHY

Koto Ōkubo was born in Japan on 24 December 1897 in Tokyo. She spent her last days in her nursing home in Kawasaki in the company of her son.

Ōkubo passed away in Kawasaki, Kanagawa, Japan on 12 January 2013, at the age of 115 years, 19 days. She was survived by her son.

RECOGNITION

She was the last surviving woman in the world born in 1897.

She was the oldest living woman in Japan since Chiyono Hasegawa‘s death on 2 December 2011, and the oldest living woman in the world since Dina Manfredini‘s death on 17 December 2012, just a week before her 115th birthday.

She was succeeded as the world’s oldest living woman by Misao Okawa.
