BIOGRAPHY

Emma Wenda was born in Biedermannsdorf, Lower Austria, on 7 July 1915. She had five siblings. At the age of 14, she completed an apprenticeship as a cook at Hotel Binder in Mönichkirchen, which was considered a luxury hotel at the time. She lived in Biedermannsdorf until 1927, after which she moved with her family to Styria. By the time World War II broke out, she was already residing in Vienna.

She worked as a tram conductor for Wiener Linien (Viennese Lines) from 3 September 1940, until her retirement in 1970. She was married to Josef Wenda until his death in 1969. An avid traveler, she visited many countries around the world. At the age of 95, she celebrated her birthday with a helicopter tour over the Mürzzuschlag area.

At 101, she underwent major surgery, leading many to believe she would not survive much longer—but she made a full recovery. In her centenarian years, she suffered a fractured femoral neck, received a hip replacement, and was fitted with new teeth.
