BIOGRAPHY

Bécarmin was born as Émilienne Vousmoi in Saint-Claude, Guadeloupe, France, on 4 June 1911. She was married and had several children, including Antoine, Christian, Raymond, and Christine. She was a farmer and a local merchant, and her diet consisted of hand-farmed vegetables from the countryside. She was affectionately known as Mimi.

At the age of 104, Bécarmin visited a university campus with four other elderly people. During her centenarian years, she was reported as being highly vivid and alert. Her 107th birthday was celebrated by her friends, family, and the local mayor. At the time of her 110th birthday, she was a great-great-great-great-grandmother, with seven generations celebrating the occasion.

Bécarmin passed away in the commune of Saint-Claude, Guadeloupe, on 15 January 2025, at the age of 113 years, 225 days.

On 8 July 2024, at the age of 113 years, 34 days, after surpassing the final age of Marthe Roch, she became the oldest person ever to reside in Guadeloupe.

At the time of her passing, Bécarmin was the third-oldest living person in France, after Marie-Rose Tessier and Andrée Bertoletto.
