Emilia Borchert (née Kretcych) was a Polish supercentenarian whose age has been validated by LongeviQuest in cooperation with the ESO.

BIOGRAPHY

Emilia Borchert was born in Białystok, Podlaskie Voivodeship, Poland (then Russian Empire), on 6 December [O.S. 23 November] 1910. She was born into a large family as the 13th child. During the First World War, she became one of the so-called bieżeńcy (refugees). At the age of four, she fled with her family from Białystok to Moscow to escape the advancing Prussian forces. A few years later, following the Russian Revolution, she and her family fled Moscow and returned to Poland.

She had always dreamed of becoming a nurse and graduated from the Warsaw Midwifery School in Praga in 1932.

During the Second World War, she lived in Sosnowiec with her husband and their two children. After the war, in 1953, she began working as a midwife at the hospital on Madalińskiego Street in Warsaw, where she continued working until the age of 75.

Following her retirement, she signed an agreement with the Warsaw School of Economics (SGPiS) to provide accommodation for students. The university sent her students from all over the world, who typically stayed for several months. She formed close friendships with some of them, treating them as if they were her own children.

Emilia Borchert passed away in Warsaw, Poland, on 6 December 2020, her 110th birthday.
