Ella Ille Juliana Rentel (née Galinat) was a Lithuanian-born German supercentenarian who was the first known supercentenarian to reside in Germany. Her age has been validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) and recognised by LongeviQuest.
BIOGRAPHY
Rentel was born in the Russian Empire, present-day Lithuania, on 19 May 1852. She died in North Rhine-Westphalia, in what was then West Germany, on 19 September 1962 at the age of 110 years, 123 days.
RECOGNITION
Rentel was the oldest living person in Europe and the second-oldest in the world, after Mary Kelly (1851 – 1964).
Rentel’s age was verified by Stefan Jamin and Thomas Breining, and was validated by the GRG on 2 June 2009.
