Élida Calvo de Jiménez was a Colombian supercentenarian.
Élida Calvo de Jiménez was born in Candelaria, Atlántico Department, Colombia, on 4 August 1904. She was the daughter of Marco Calvo and his wife, Genoveva, cattle ranchers in their municipality. In addition to Élida, the couple had four other children—all sons—whom she outlived.
In 1935, she moved to Barranquilla after marrying Carlos Nelson Jiménez, a teacher, dentist, and former mayor of Candelaria. The couple settled in the Chiquinquirá neighborhood, where she lived permanently. They had seven children, the eldest of whom was Jorge.
Shortly before her 99th birthday, she had a pacemaker implanted.
In February 2015, at the age of 110, she suffered a stroke. At 111, it was reported that she still woke up at 5 a.m. each day and had been cared for by the same caretaker for 12 years. At that time, she experienced some difficulty sleeping and no longer read the newspaper or watched the news as much as she once had. She had 21 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 25 great-great-grandchildren, most of whom lived in the United States, Chile, or as far away as Saudi Arabia.
Élida Calvo de Jiménez passed away in Barranquilla, Atlantico Department, on 12 June 2016, at the age of 111 years, 312 days.
Her age was researched by Santiago García Medina, and was announced as pending validation by the Latin American Supercentenarians (LAS) as of 22 June 2021.
