Snyder was born in Boston, Massachusetts on 10 August 1908 as the daughter of Frank and Lillian (née Kelly) Edwards. She moved to Chicago, Illinois aged 10, where her father worked as a salesman and her mother ran a boarding house. On 12 August 1929, she married Donald E. Hall. In 1931, they relocated to Peoria, Illinois after Hall found a job there.
In 1941, Snyder gave birth to her son, Duane E. Hall, who she outlived. Thereafter, she became a homemaker, giving up sports. She remarried to Harry R. Snyder on 26 July 1958, her second marriage lasted for three decades.
Snyder was employed by a newspaper company and relished in travelling, visiting every state bar Hawaii. She joined the First United Methodist Church around the age of 30, and was a member for the rest of her life. She gave up driving aged 97; she started using a wheelchair at 106 years old, shortly thereafter moving into a nursing home.
On her 110th birthday, Snyder claimed the secret to her longevity was eating shredded wheat and being a lifelong non-smoker. She also never gambled or drank alcohol. Reading and writing daily were among her pastimes.
