BIOGRAPHY

Chieko Kubo (久保チヱ子) was born in Hanadaka, Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, Japan, on 16 May 1916.

In her younger years, she worked at a bank in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. She later married and returned to Gunma during World War II. After losing her husband around 1976, she continued to live independently while enjoying hobbies such as ballroom dancing and flower arranging.

At around the age of 103, Kubo moved into a care home in Takasaki. At the age of 110, she continues to read the newspaper every morning as part of her daily routine. She enjoys playing shichi-narabe, a Japanese card game, with other residents every day and actively moves her arms and legs during exercise sessions. She also finishes all of her meals without leaving any food.

Kubo says, “I enjoy talking with everyone and taking part in events.” When asked about the secret to her longevity, she says it is “being herself and living naturally.”
