Benjamín Arechiga Ornelas was born on 1 April 1916 in Atotonilco el Alto, Jalisco, Mexico.
In February 1942, he married María del Carmen Jiménez and had nine children. He was married for 78 years to his wife before she passed away in April 2020.
In 1949, he moved to California, USA, where he has resided ever since. He currently lives in San Ysidro, California, United States.
