BIOGRAPHY

Augusta Oteiza was born in Cauneille, Landes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France on 3 May 1912. She had 7 siblings. She left her family at the age of 7 to live with her godfather and aunt, who were unable to have children.

On 3 August 1935, she married Celso Georges Oteiza. The couple went on to have six children, and the family settled in Bayonne. She was widowed when she was 63. At the time, she was living in her small house in Anglet, where she would spend the following 30 years before moving in with her grandson in Tarnos.

In 2022, she moved into a nursing home. When asked about the secret of her longevity, she jokingly replied, “Stay with the young people.”

Augusta Oteiza passed away in Tarnos, Landes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France, on 10 June 2024, at the age of 112 years, 38 days.
