BIOGRAPHY

Assumpta Tortorella was born in Botucatu, São Paulo, Brazil, on 5 March 1903, to parents Pedro (Pietro) Tortorella and Joana Tíllio. She had an older sister, Eliza, and 11 younger siblings, including Alayde, Adelaide, Antonieta, Helena, Maria Vilma, José, Orestes, Francisco and Alfredo.

At some point, she married Joaquim Reis, a merchant.

At the age of 109, she lived with her younger sister, Helena Tortorella Pinheiro Machado (born 13 August 1920).

Assumpta Tortorella passed away in Botucatu, São Paulo, Brazil, on 2 February 2014, at the age of 110.

RECOGNITION

Tortorella’s age was categorized as ‘pending validation’ by the Latin American Supercentenarians (LAS) as of 19 October 2022. The validation process was completed by Stefan Maglov and Gabriel Ainsworth, and her age was validated by LongeviQuest on 21 July 2023.
