BIOGRAPHY

Antonia Valderrama Ocampo was born in Hacienda de Cabañas, Guerrero, Mexico, on 11 April 1907 (claimed 1905). She had at least two brothers.

At some point in her life, she married but never had children. In 1961, she witnessed the devastation of Hurricane Tara, which destroyed several communities in the region, including her birthplace, Hacienda de Cabañas. She reportedly met Lucio Cabañas Barrientos, a Mexican schoolteacher and revolutionary, during his travels through the area. Recalling their encounter, she once said, “I met him when he came several times to Hacienda Cabañas—we even gave him food.”

As of 2019, she was cared for by two of her nieces.

Antonia Valderrama Ocampo passed away in Hacienda de Cabañas, Guerrero, Mexico, on 9 June 2020, at the age of 113 years and 59 days.

RECOGNITION

Her age was verified by Fabrizio Villatoro, Stefan Maglov and Rebeca López Cabañas, and validated by the GRG on 26 July 2019. She was the second validated supercentenarian who lived in Mexico, after Ambrosia Acosta Terán.
