Antonia “Toña” Torregroza de Effio was a Panamanian supercentenarian.
Antonia Torregroza de Effio was born in Panama on 11 February 1913.
In 2017, she underwent surgery to have a pacemaker implanted. In January 2019, she had the opportunity to meet Pope Francis. In August 2020, she was hospitalized after falling and breaking her hip. Between 2020 and 2021, at the age of 107, she contracted COVID-19 during the pandemic. However, she had fully recovered by her 108th birthday in February 2021, making her one of the oldest known survivors of the disease.
Antonia Torregroza de Effio passed away in Panama City, Panama Province, Panama, on 28 February 2024, at the age of 111 years, 17 days.
Her age was verified by Santiago García Medina and James Roberts, and listed as a pending validation by the Latin American Supercentenarians (LAS) as of 18 February 2022.
