Amelia Addari was an Italian supercentenarian whose age has been validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO) and recognised by LongeviQuest. Together with her sister, Giovanna Addari, they are among the few sibling duos to both attain supercentenarian status.

BIOGRAPHY

Addari was born in Genoni, Sardinia, Italy on 25 March 1912 to Pietro Addari and Marietta Piroddi. Her mother was a housewife originally from Nuragus, and her father was an elementary school teacher originally from Gergei. She had six siblings, two of whom lived over a century: Amerigo died aged 101, and Giovanna died at 110 years, 28 days, making the two sisters among the oldest sibling duos of all time.

Addari never married and had no children, instead pursuing hobbies such as crocheting. She moved from Genoni to the nearby town of Nuragus.

Addari passed away in Nuragus, Sardinia, on 20 July 2024, at the age of 112 years, 117 days.

RECOGNITION

Following the passing of Maria Nicolina Manca (17 March 1911 – 13 September 2020), she became the oldest (known) living person in Sardinia.

On her 110th birthday, Addari was congratulated by the parish priest, the mayor, and the vice mayor of Nuragus. The parish priest brought her communion, and the dignitaries presented her with a bouquet of flowers.

Addari’s age was verified by Paolo Scarabaggio and validated by the ESO on 30 June 2022.

At the time of her passing, she was the fourth-oldest living person in Italy, following Claudia Baccarini, Lucia Laura Sangenito, and Francesca Fioriglio.

Following her passing, Luigia Mercalli (born 17 February 1915) succeeded her as the oldest living person in Sardinia.

With a combined final age of 222 years, 145 days, she and her sister Giovanna hold the record as the oldest siblings ever to have died in Europe.
