Alice Faber de Freitas Leitão was born in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, on 30 April 1917. She was the seventh child of Luiz Faber and Helena Hüsemann Faber. During her childhood, she lived in Campinas and, for a few years, in the city of São Paulo. She attended the Normal School in Campinas, São Paulo, graduating in 1936.
In 1937, she married Hermógenes de Freitas Leitão (27 September 1907 – 10 November 1985), with whom she had three children: Roberto Luiz (8 April 1938 – 14 October 2012), Mauro (born 1 August 1941), and Hermógenes Filho (6 February 1944 – 23 February 1996). As of 2025, she had seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Following her marriage, she made her permanent home in Campinas. A devoted nature enthusiast, she still visits the family farm, where she enjoys spending time with younger generations. An active witness to history and a passionate reader, she is known for her sharp mind and keen interest in current events, both national and global. She credits her longevity and good health to a disciplined daily routine, a strict diet, and a cheerful outlook on life.
