BIOGRAPHY

Helen Chamberlain was born in Weatherly, Pennsylvania, USA on 16 January 1906, to parents Harry and Sally Chamberlain. One of her earliest memories dates back to 1912, where she recalled being six years old and hearing the news of the Titanic sinking over the radio.

After high school, she studied nursing at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., and would work there as a nurse for six years before returning to her hometown in Pennsylvania. She would later find work as a nurse for a physician in a private practice in Weatherly.

As a centenarian, she reportedly attributed her longevity to having never married nor having children, and on her 108th birthday, she stated “I had the most wonderful parents and family, we were never cross with each other. I have had a happy life.”

In 2015, in commemoration of her 109th birthday, she was visited by then-Pennsylvania State Senator Stewart Greenleaf, who presented her with a plaque congratulating her on her longevity.

Helen Chamberlain died in Lower Gwynedd, Pennsylvania, USA on 25 February 2017, at the age of 111 years, 40 days.
